ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS: Joshua (von) Brown
An award-winning narrative and documentary filmmaker based in Brooklyn, Joshua has directed, produced and edited projects which have been featured at film festivals worldwide and have aired on Bravo, MTV, VH1, The Sundance Channel, Court TV, A&E and PBS. Most recently, he directed the underground narrative feature ALTAMONT NOW, winner of Best Director at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature from the Arizona Underground Film Festival. Named “2008 Movie of the Year” by the underground film website Bad Lit, the film premiered at the Boston Underground Film Festival and continues to other film festivals worldwide.
Joshua’s first documentary – 50,000,000 JOE FRANKLIN FANS CAN’T BE WRONG – profiled the legendarily cult New York TV talk show host Joe Franklin. The film aired on PBS stations in New York City and across the USA, and was featured as the cover story of the New York Daily News TV magazine.
Joshua wrote and directed two narrative shorts which screened at film festivals worldwide: DEAD TIME (San Francisco International Film Festival premiere); and FAIRYTALE IN THE SUPERMARKET (South by Southwest Film Festival premiere). He received an M.F.A. in Film from New York University, where he was awarded the Martin Scorcese Prize for documentary. He earned his B.A. at Brown University in film/critical theory.
