Pump up the Oompah! THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING is an irreverent look at the rise and fall of Grammy-nominated polka music superstar Jan Lewan, whose defection from Poland to Pennsylvania led to fame, fortune and an international Polka Empire. But when Lewan's empire collapsed under a cloud of scandal, the polka world was stunned to learn of the greatest polka-related financial crime in history.

This post is long overdue… a photo of Jan Lewan, the Polka King himself, just released from prison and attending our Brooklyn International Film Festival premiere.
As you can see, he looks proverbially tanned, rested and ready to re-conquer the world of polka.
How do you feel about this? Is all forgiven with Jan Lewan? Has he paid his dues to society? We know this is a very controversial topic and we invite your comments below.
PS— An exciting new Polka King film festival screening to be announced within the next couple of days!

Breaking News: Jan and Rhonda Lewan LIVE at Thursday’s Brooklyn screening!

We have received word that Jan Lewan, the Polka King himself, and his wife Rhonda will attend this Thursday’s repeat screening of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING at the Brooklyn International Film Festival.

Jan is recently released from 5 years in state and federal prison, and is apparently anxious to see our film about his life and his illegal investment scheme. We assume he is prepared to answer a few questions after the screening, along with co-director Joshua von Brown.

Please join us at the screening and help spread the word about this very unique event!

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING

Thursday June 11 at 5 PM, Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street, Brooklyn

Get your advance tickets HERE. We hope to see you!

NY Times writes about tonight’s Brooklyn premiere!

We’re very excited for tonight’s US premiere at the Brooklyn International Film Festival… and so is the New York Times!

READ THE FULL NYTIMES.COM  POST HERE!

To update, online ticketing is now up on the Brooklyn International Film Festival website if you want to buy tickets in advance (which we recommend, as we are not sure how large the theater is).

And please join us at ReBar in Dumbo from 8 PM on for the Polka King Afterparty!

For those of you in or near New York City, we need your help in spreading the word. We’re hoping for a big hometown turnout for our premiere (much of our film was produced from our office just a few blocks from where the film will be screening)!

More exciting details to announce soon!

For those of you in Poland, a reminder that our World Premiere is Monday June 1 at 8 PM at the KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL. We can’t wait.

Polka King: Two Big Premieres to Announce!

We promised to announce the exciting premiere of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE POLKA KING. A special surprise… how about two?!

We are excited to announce that on June 1, we will world premiere our film at the prestigious KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL in Krakow, Poland. It is the oldest film festival in Poland and one of the best documentary festivals in Europe. What better way to launch the film than where the story of the Polka King all began— Poland.

Then, just a few days later we will be making our U.S. Premiere right at home: at the BROOKLYN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. This is a wonderful film festival in its 12th year and we are super-stoked that we can screen it here.

More details very soon, including the exact screening date and time of our Brooklyn screening, as well as more possible surprises!
